Winter. Time to eat fat

February Workshop: For the Love of Poetry
For the Love of Poetry
Maybe you're already thinking what others have said to me so many times: "I don't get poetry." (As if there's some magical key that unlocks it!) At this month's workshop, we'll read and discuss excellent, moving, challenging, innovative poems and try our hand at writing our own (up to you if you want to cram them with adjectives). Poetry is about language, emotion, and surprise--key elements of any type of writing you might do. Join me for an evening that will expand your thinking and improve your writing.
Date & time: February 26, 2018, 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Location: The Mothership, 401 W Geer St, Durham.
Cost: Sliding scale, $10-20.
February finds me wandering through books. I'm reading Ursula LeGuin, Thoreau, a biography of Mary Wollstonecraft, and somehow every day I must read at least three Mary Oliver poems. In the winter I often go to the library and pull books off the shelf nearly at random. Life strives too much for order, or at least it feels that way in the winter. Read something surprising this month!
