Shine: June 2018
The sun is mass of incandescent gas,
a gigantic nuclear furnace
where hydrogen is built into helium
at a temperature of millions of degrees

Reflections on June
As my fifth summer in NC begins to blaze, I am still surprised by the sun--how bright and long and powerfully it shines. I can feel it on my skin every day, a searing reminder of its force, which must be obeyed.
Every season has its own routines; summer's longer days have me up earlier, at my desk for longer. As I plod through my pages, the sun climbs and I whisper my prayer: May we all shine as bright as you.
Save the Date: Art Party, August 4th
There's going to be an awesome Art Party at the Mothership on August 4th and you are cordially invited! This public event will be an opportunity to read some of your work, connect with other creatives, and get inspired. There will be snacks and drinks and presentations in many different genres! Mark your calendar for August 4th, 7pm, and keep an eye out for more details coming soon! I'm so excited I can't stop using exclamation points!!!

Pretty much everybody who makes stuff struggles with where making art fits with the rest of their life. I know a lot of people (myself included) who at one time or another believed they couldn't call themselves a writer until they got something published or had a job that declared them a writer. Elizabeth Gilbert has some insight on the different roles art and money and recognition can play in our creative lives that I find enlightening and compassionate. Check her out!
