Glow: June 2019

Next One Day Writing Retreat is August 3!
I have another one-day writing retreat coming up in August, which is, coincidentally, my favorite time to stay inside all day long, talk craft, and spend some time with my imaginary friends (i.e. write fiction). If you, like me, are over the heat and humidity and want to get back to your writing in a nourishing space, please join me for this retreat. For more information and to register, click here.

I am teaching 3 classes this fall at the Carrboro ArtsCenter, including a new class on live storytelling (think The Moth or The Monti) that I'm really excited about. Registration doesn't open till August 2nd--I will send you the link when it's live. Till then, save the date!

I'm currently reading Lisa Cron's book Wired for Story. I always enjoy a good book on craft, and I've found this book especially interesting because of the way it explains how our brains react to story and how to construct compelling narrative based on these instinctive habits. I admit I don't agree with every bit of advice she gives, but I do think there's a lot of wise commentary on how we as writers can direct our stories to draw readers in. It's a quick read and definitely worth a look if you are hungry for concrete examples of story construction.
