I am having a wonderful time teaching Intro to the Short Story at the Carrboro ArtsCenter, and I can't wait to dive into the tricky art of truth telling in Intro to the Memoir, which starts November 19th. In this class, we will break down the personal essay and examine its individual components to better understand how essays are constructed and what tools we have at our disposal to build compelling personal narratives. Anybody out there having a busy fall? I find this the most frantic time of year, which is why I'm looking forward to the next one day writing retreat, where we will escape our to-do lists and return to our writing practice.
