Dream: more June thoughts on writing, reading, and the world

Today I swam laps for the first time in three months, a baptism for this lapsed Jew. The radio on deck was playing classic rock with strange-sounding lyrics from another time: Oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone.
I am planning more classes for July and August--see below for fiction, starting July 23. I'll have info on two new memoir classes in my next newsletter. All my classes will continue online until at least August, but I'm fantasizing about teaching in person in the fall. Maybe in a park. I sure don't know what's feasible or wise, but I'm dreaming these days. Dreaming is necessary, I think, the only way we can imagine a better reality than the one we live in.
I hope your dreams are technicolor these days, and you aren't waking up before the really good part. Stay well and stay in touch.

Reading and Writing Fiction starts July 23
I'll be offering another fiction class starting in July. In Reading & Writing Fiction, we’ll take a close look at short fiction and engage in detailed discussions of craft, including point of view, character, dialogue, plot, pacing, transitions, beginnings, and endings. We'll do writing exercises to practice our craft and you will have the opportunity to share your work if you choose. The emphasis will be on thorough exploration of the techniques and execution that sum to stellar fiction, with plenty of insight to take back to your own work.
The class will meet Thursdays 6:00pm to 7:30pm from July 23rd to August 27th (6 sessions), by Zoom. Register now.
