Reveal: November 2019

This week my intro storytelling class concludes and intro to memoir kicks off. I've had a ball teaching new classes at the Carrboro ArtsCenter this fall--I've met dozens of amazing people who have shared their stories with me in a disarmingly honest way. As the world churns, I am heartened by how powerful it can be to gather and share, how essential it is to make meaning of our lives and help each other with the process. This fall I've been teaching in three genres--short story, live storytelling, and memoir--and it astonishes and heartens me how narrative is at the heart of just about everything and how already we know it--we know what stories look and feel like, it's just a matter of getting down to the sometimes challenging business of telling our own. For all of you who have shared your time, ideas, and experiences with me in the last few months, I give my thanks. You have inspired my teaching, writing, and living in many ways, and I'm grateful for your vibrant presence.
