Hey, thanks for stopping by!
A little bit about me: I’m a creative writing instructor and coach. I’ve lived in DC, NYC, Chicago, Iowa City, and now call Chapel Hill, North Carolina my home.
I lead ongoing workshops for writers who want accountability, community, and craft.
I have a podcast called Writing in the Dark, where I talk craft, with Ralph Walker, with whom I lead Journey to Jupiter, an annual in-person writing retreat for fiction and memoir writers.
And I run Story Connection, a live storytelling series, which has a podcast too.
Oh, and I’m writing a novel.
Yup—I’m a busy person, but I love what I do. My work centers creative joy, helping people find their unique voice, and building community.
I believe that writing is joy—more on that here—and that everyone has a unique voice that deserves to be heard. I am working on a novel and write about the craft and wonder of the writing process and how to support it. I think rest is an essential part of the creative process.
All my content is free. I send out posts every Friday on the writing process, what I’m reading, and info on upcoming classes, which are always up to date on my website. Paid subscribers get all the same content plus the delight of knowing they are supporting a working artist.
Part of my Substack is Story Connection, a podcast of the live storytelling series I run in Carrboro, North Carolina. Some Friday posts will be new episodes of the Story Connection podcasts. Even if you don’t identify as a storyteller, I encourage you to give these a listen—they are short bursts of humanity that will enrich and entertain you. Here’s one about moms, and another about how to be yourself.
Thanks, as always, for reading. Keep writing, friend.
