I am a fan of these one-sentence reviews. More please! I'm finally reading Parable of the Sower which I recommend but not during your news hiatus. In the meantime, I'm still recommending Kittentits by Holly Wilson to everyone I know.

I think Parable of the Sower should be required reading! And I have Kittentits on my list, FOR THE TITLE ALONE!!!

I loved these digestible bite-sized book reviews. I’m with you on the news. It only gives me compassion fatigue. ❤️ I always love your perspective.

I've been telling everyone--The Manicurist's Daughter is the best memoir I've ever read.

And in my house, we have "quiet reading time" at breakfast, and then at lunch or dinner (depending on our schedules), I'll ask my husband if this is a reading meal or a talking meal.

Thanks so much for the Stephen King quote and the book reviews! Am enjoying Wellness by Nathan Hill now! WOW! Absolutely loved Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano at your recommendation. Going to start taking a book with me everywhere. And yes- I’m getting out of the house! 💚

Love this, Julia! One sentence book reviews are my fav, especially when you are speaking directly to writers! I read HERE ONE MOMENT by Liane Moriarty recently and I can't stop thinking about it.

In the first page and a half she introduces a large cast of fascinating characters all seated on a delayed flight to Sydney. I didn’t love this approach, but I found it interesting as a writer. As they take flight, a woman jumps up and points at each person as she predicts the age they will die and the cause of their death. The rest of the book follows several people revealing how correct the crazy "Death Lady" appears to be, which makes the other passengers freak out, thinking they will die soon. Lots of suspense.

The book is an interesting study for writers on how to approach multiple POVs and keep them interested enough to get through 512 pages. It is listed as a literary thriller, and I found it to be an amazing page-turner. I completed it in less than two days.

Sorry, as you can see, I'm not good at one sentence reviews, but if you are looking for a book to create conversation with family and friends (or other writers), you should give this one a try.

Well thanks for this! I haven't read her work, but have heard a lot about it. This opening on the plane with multiple characters reminds me of Ann Napolitano's Dear Edward. Probably less of a page turner than Moriarty's, but very well done and moving.

I loved DEAR EDWARD by Ann Napolitano. Quite an emotional read. Moriarty's story is similar in that it involves a plane, but no crash, and then it takes on a completely different feel. I'm not sure if you will like it or not, but the story will raise questions on people's beliefs and superstitions, and stir up quite the lively conversations.

I like how you've broke the reviews out into a 1 sentence summary and an add-on for writers to consider, Julia! Love reading your thoughts on all of these, Demon Copperhead and Orbital especially. This writer was bored by the latter (yes, lack of plot and I had not a speck of care for any of astronauts) so it was a DNF but Demon was the first Kingsolver I've ever loved! It ranks high up there for recommendations for me. I also talk about _Beautyland_every chance I get! I didn't care for Bertino's first, _Parakeet_ but _Beautyland_ is like nothing else I've ever read.

One sentence book reviews are a brilliant idea whose time has come--it's like a cooking blog skipping all the "backstory" and getting straight to the recipe. What a delight!

Thanks! You won't be surprised I skip *all* that stuff on a cooking blog and head right to the recipe 😂

This is so helpful, Julia! I love the once-sentence review and the additional burb for writers. Some of these books have been on my list for a while, but with the additional insight you gave into them, I've just bumped a few up!
